Leadership

“Driven by heartfelt interactions during my early years as a Brownie in the Girl Scouts and my father’s wish for me to embody that same joy and compassion, my nursing career is a testament to the power of genuine connection and empathy.”

Melissa Dickinson

BSN, RN

Director of Nursing

Melissa is a dedicated nursing professional with over 30 years of experience. From her humble beginnings as a nursing assistant at a family-owned skilled nursing facility, Melissa’s journey has been defined by a personal calling to elderly care. Starting at age 16, she worked her way through nursing school, earning her degree in 1987. Her career flourished as she transitioned to management roles, driven by a desire to make a difference in the lives of those under her care. Melissa’s diverse nursing career includes Home Health, Emergency Room, and Medical Surgical floors. However, it was Long Term Care that truly resonated with her, allowing her to impart knowledge to residents, families, and staff alike. As the Director of Nursing at River Trace Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Melissa leads a team of diverse clinicians, and her journey is a testament to her deep-seated commitment to compassionate healthcare.

“My mission is to emphasize the worth of every life stage and make a meaningful impact to those we serve at River Trace Nursing & Rehab.”

DeVicky Whitfield

Admissions Director

With a heart touched by the wisdom of older generations, DeVicky has devoted over 30 years of her life to Skilled Nursing. Raised by her grandparents alongside their eight children, DeVicky’s early comfort with older adults became the cornerstone of her lifelong calling. At just 16 years old, a visit to her great aunt’s skilled nursing facility rehabilitation center after a severe stroke revealed a transformative encounter. There, during the journey to recovery, DeVicky met an inspiring Physical Therapist and a team of dedicated professionals who helped shape her future path planting the seeds of her future career, one that would channel her compassion into uplifting the lives of others. Navigating through various career avenues after college, DeVicky eventually found her true purpose within Long Term Care. As the Admissions Director, she stands as the reassuring first point of contact for new families and residents, streamlining the onboarding process. She focuses on alleviating the stress and administrative burdens, fostering a smooth transition for those entering River Trace and firmly believes that every stage of life is precious and deserving of the highest quality of care.
